Uprising Devotional 6

I want you to show love, not offer sacrifices. I want you to know me more than I want burnt offerings.

Hosea 6:6 NLT

The meaning of the verse is that we should not think of worship as acts of religious ritual. We need to realize that true, authentic worship is grounded in the true knowledge of God.

In our worship we must rightly think about God if we want God to delight in us. When we see worship as more of something religious we do, rather than seeing it as an intimate time with God, we have wrong thinking about what God wants from our worship.

We should not think of worship as acts of religious ritual.

Worship needs to be a part of us, not just a time slot in our weekly routine. It needs to be a lifestyle that we live, not just an action that we do. Worship must be more than us just getting a “gold star on our board”.

For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth.

John 4:24 (NLT)

THINK IT OVER

  1. What do you think that Hosea 6:6 means by “I want you to know me more than I want burnt offerings.”
  2. How can worship become more of a lifestyle to you, than just something that you do?
